Leadership Development

Fay recognizes that to properly prepare the world’s future leaders, we must prepare the “whole child” by focusing not just on academic excellence but on the social development of our children.

Our world needs leaders to be innovative and interdependent to meet the ever-changing global challenges. The Fay School is committed to establishing a fertile foundation of cooperation, assertiveness, responsibility, empathy, and self-control at a young age by integrating our five elements of leadership development through the social-emotional lens. Through our Project C.A.R.E.S. initiative, each word; cooperation, assertiveness, responsibility, empathy, and self-control, is introduced to our Kindergarten through Fifth Grade students. Every six weeks one of our Fifth Grade Leaders presents the word, for example, "Cooperation," by explaining what the word means, and announces what grade level classes will present the word at the Celebration Ceremony. This allows campus-wide discussions on what word looks like and sounds like in cultivating the core elements in developing student leaders.

To reinforce our school’s vision of “deliberately building and educating the next generation of leaders for our world,” our Fourth and Fifth Grade students live this out every day through numerous stewardship opportunities. These opportunities include:  Chicken Coop, Fay News, Library Aide, Makerspace Aide, Mail Carrier, Admissions Aide, and Technology Aide. Through these various stewardship opportunities, our Fourth and Fifth Grade students are learning teamwork, commitment, and service to their community.

Leadership in Action

Every year, Fay designates the new Fifth Grade class as campus leaders. Part of their leadership journey begins with understanding community, active participation, and fostering inclusion. They learned just that at their 2022 Leadership Summit at Kids' Meals - Houston where they helped pack free healthy meals for hungry kids in the Houston area.

Building on our dedication to social-emotional learning, The Fay School is committed to establishing a fertile foundation of empathy and self-awareness at a young age by integrating our four elements of leadership development.
