
After-School Activities - The Fay School
After-School Activities (ASA) are a variety of enrichment classes offered through The Fay School’s partnership with Fay Faculty and local teaching professionals. The cost of these classes varies, ranging from $300 - $600 per semester, depending on the subject matter and the number of sessions offered per semester. Classes are offered once a week for an hour.

Creative Chefs - Mondays and Thursdays
Are your children asking to help cook or bake in the kitchen? Then Creative Chefs is perfect for your child! Every chef will learn skills such as kitchen hygiene, kitchen safety, and utensil skills. Throughout the semester, chefs will create appetizers, main entrees, side dishes, salads, and desserts, as well as explore different cultures by creating foods from various parts of the world. Each week, our recipes will alternate between sweet and savory.
*Please register for this class only one day of the week. Two-day per week registrations will be adjusted.

The elegant sport of fencing, popular in Europe, is now gaining popularity in the United States and in the Houston area. Many Americans are discovering the benefits of fencing! These include helping young people gain admission and scholarships to prestigious universities as well as providing a life-long sport in which physique and age are not limitations.

Junior Athletes - Mondays
The Junior Athletes program is designed to allow students to experience a wide range of activities. Sports based lessons (soccer, basketball, baseball, flag football, tennis, etc.) along with fun fitness activities (dodgeball, obstacle courses, bowling, scooter boards, relay races, etc.) will be introduced throughout each semester. Students will practice cooperation, sportsmanship, and teamwork. It is important that students experience success while learning. We will work to instill into each student the skills and confidence needed to succeed!

Zen Kidz Yoga - Mondays
Yoga for kids is all about stillness AND movement. In this class, children are able to develop flexibility, focus, and coordination for a happy, healthy, and balanced life. The students have a blast playing games, learning breathing techniques, dancing, practicing mini-meditations, and creating their own yoga adventures! We often integrate yoga poses through meaningful story-telling that teaches concepts such as kindness, how to be present, believing in yourself, and the importance of gratitude. Kids’ yoga helps to increase confidence, build focus, improve emotional regulation, and release energy.

Little Spanish Brains - Tuesdays
Empower Your Child with the Joy of Learning A Second Language: Say HOLA to Spanish this Spring at The Fay School!
Tailored for 3 and 4-year-olds, our approach centers around interactive and playful learning, starting with friendly greetings and progressing to vocabulary introduction through engaging games and culturally enriched lessons. Real-life scenarios encourage active participation, reinforcing previous vocabulary through repetition. Basic Spanish phonics, grammar, and pre-reading concepts are also introduced, allowing children to appreciate the structured routine of games, songs, crafts, and Total Physical Response (TPR) techniques that make language learning enjoyable and effective.
We provide digital access to a rich array of resources—videos, voice files, flashcards, and pronunciation guides—enabling parents to extend the learning experience at home. Give your child the invaluable gift of language proficiency and cultural enrichment with Little Spanish Brains.

Make Your Mark: Art with Glassell - Tuesdays
Join Glassell Junior School for Make Your Mark Art Class! Students learn to work with a variety of materials in this exciting introduction to art. Activities include drawing, painting, building sculptures and more! Basic techniques are presented with a lot of encouragement!
About Glassell Junior School: The Glassell Junior School is an art school for young people, devoted to nurturing creativity and dedicated to fostering an appreciation of the arts and an awareness of the world. The Glassell School is known as the “teaching wing” of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

Come serve it up with TGA Premier Youth Tennis! TGA has partnered with the United States Tennis Association to create a fun and innovative tennis program for your child. TGA’s five-level elementary school curriculum includes games, drills, and physical fitness activities. Every TGA class focuses on academic concepts developed by educational experts along with the rules and etiquette of tennis. TGA brings all the equipment, training materials, and a 10:1 student-to-instructor ratio to allow for plenty of individual attention. Our goal is to develop our students’ tennis skills and give children the building blocks for future achievement on the tennis court and in life.

Drama - Wednesdays
Join Ms. Hannah for creative drama, an improvisational, non-exhibition, process-oriented form of drama where participants are guided to imagine, enact, and reflect on experiences real and imagined. All Drama instruction is lead with an out-of-the-box approach to learning that engages imagination, concentration, and sensory awareness in a playful, theatrical environment. Drama helps children work on social skills and academic subjects using theater games and improvisations, and provides a safe environment for students to practice public speaking skills. Primary Drama invites children to explore and celebrate their inner and outer worlds through dramatic play. The curriculum is mindful and supports public speaking skills, developing literacy and locomotor skills while bringing stories to life!

Tae Kwon Do - Wednesdays
Master Bruce and Olympia Tae Kwon Do are back! Master Bruce is an 8th degree Black Belt who has been practicing Tae Kwon Do for over forty years. He has over thirty years of experience teaching children and adults and has produced over 2,000 black belt students. Master Bruce opened Olympia Tae Kwon Do in 1988 and has taught at private schools throughout the Houston area for almost twenty years. Master Bruce uses Tae Kwon Do to help students improve concentration, confidence, and focus while also emphasizing the importance of positivity and respect. Master Bruce teaches Tae Kwon Do techniques through a variety of drills to help improve students’ balance, attention span, and more. Classes are a combination of learning basic self-defense moves (blocks, kicks, and punches) as well as games and drills to improve coordination and focus. Each registered student will receive a Tae Kwon Do uniform.

Materials Needed: Bring provided Tae Kwon Do Uniform on class days. Uniform is built into the cost of the class.
Tippi Toes - Wednesdays
This class will teach basic techniques of three dance genres (Ballet, Tap, and Jazz), while also encouraging self-expression and creativity. Dancers in this class will enjoy being silly, using their imagination, and dancing with friends. Our original, high-energy music is used to ensure dancers are learning and moving throughout the entire dance class. Our instructors will keep the music and curriculum moving along while encouraging, supporting, and keeping all little dancers on track.
The cost of the end of semester recital is $97 and this includes sales tax, your student's costume, three tickets to the show, and the venue fee. Additional tickets will be available for purchase through the Tippi Toes website a few weeks prior to the show and dancers do not need a ticket. The $97 recital fee is built in to your registration fee.

At Brown’s Gymnastics, our goal is to make healthy, happy, and confident kids. We specialize in great instruction from a highly trained staff, thinking of ourselves as teachers, not just coaches. It is not enough to just show a child a trick; we help them to understand it and then guide them through the experiences of failure and success. We recognize that not every student is the same. That is where our almost 30 years of experience comes in. We use time-proven methods to get the best results possible, all while having tons of fun!

STEM Robotics - Thursdays
This STEM introduction class has it all: building, creating, designing, engineering, coding concepts, basic robotics, and an introduction to drones. We aim to make a child's first experience with STEM both fun and engaging, so we create a space for the kids to work collaboratively to bring their ideas to life. This is a very hands-on class. Our belief is, the more fun they have in this learning environment, the more likely they are to continue pursuing STEM opportunities in the future. Opportunities will abound in this space in the future, and no STEM company has more fun - so come join us this summer in living out our motto: "Bringing the Future to People...Today."

Waelly World Soccer School is a welcoming and caring community where coaches mentor young players in developing their skills by providing a safe and positive after-school environment. Kinder drama classes focus on fun, interactive activities built around the drama skill set. The class is non-exhibition but focuses on a process-oriented form of drama. We will work on social skills that will carry us through life, using theater games where we focus on public speaking, memory, brain exercises, following directions and cooperation. We will often take guided imaginary journeys that take us on all types of adventures. We will bring to life our favorite stories with a curriculum that is mindful, supports public speaking, developing literacy and locomotor skills to bring our imagination and best ideas to life! All Drama instruction is an out-of-the-box approach to explore behavior, ideas and creativity, allowing Kindergarten students a unique approach to learning that engages imagination, concentration, teamwork and sensory awareness in a playful, fun environment. In this class, the students have a blast putting together different sequences, playing games, dancing, and creating their own yoga adventures! We also discuss valuable mindfulness topics and complete fun crafts to reinforce these ideas. Topics include: how to handle worries, being present, practicing gratitude, the power of positive thinking, showing love and kindness to others, and appreciating your uniqueness. Kids’ yoga helps to increase positive moods, build concentration, develop self-awareness, and manage stress.

Chess Wizards - Wednesdays
Chess Wizards is a premier chess education company providing fun, informative and challenging chess lessons to students. Chess Wizards teaches children many important life concepts, such as learning the ability to win graciously and accept defeat with dignity and sportsmanship. Students will be divided into groups according to their chess experience. At the end of this session, each student would have had the chance to participate in a mini chess tournament.

Musical Theatre - Wednesdays
Young Audiences of Houston Arts Partner with iACT Houston: Disciplines to Make a Triple Threat!
This class will feature instruction in dance, singing, and acting that builds into the performance of a musical scene/showcase. This workshop gives students (trained and untrained alike) the opportunity to perform in a musical number. For participants who may be nervous on stage, performing in the chorus will allow them to cooperate with others in a group. For those who wish to step out of their own a little, performing special solos and leading routines will be offered. In the end all parts work together to make a very entertaining whole.

Zen Kids Yoga - Mondays
Yoga for kids is all about stillness AND movement! We practice breathing techniques and meditate, but we also stretch, strengthen, balance, and wiggle. In this class, the students have a blast putting together different sequences, playing games, dancing, and creating their own yoga adventures! We also discuss valuable mindfulness topics and complete fun crafts to reinforce these ideas. Topics include: how to handle worries, being present, practicing gratitude, the power of positive thinking, showing love and kindness to others, and appreciating your uniqueness. Kids’ yoga helps to increase positive moods, build concentration, develop self-awareness, and manage stress.

Come serve it up with TGA Premier Youth Tennis! TGA has partnered with the United States Tennis Association to create a fun and innovative tennis program for your child. TGA’s five-level elementary school curriculum includes games, drills, and physical fitness activities. Every TGA class focuses on academic concepts developed by educational experts along with the rules and etiquette of tennis. TGA brings all the equipment, training materials, and a 10:1 student-to-instructor ratio to allow for plenty of individual attention. Our goal is to develop our students’ tennis skills and give children the building blocks for future achievement on the tennis court and in life.

Tae Kwon Do - Wednesdays
Master Bruce and Olympia Tae Kwon Do are back! Master Bruce is an 8th degree Black Belt who has been practicing Tae Kwon Do for over forty years. He has over thirty years of experience teaching children and adults and has produced over 2,000 black belt students. Master Bruce opened Olympia Tae Kwon Do in 1988 and has taught at private schools throughout the Houston area for almost twenty years. Master Bruce uses Tae Kwon Do to help students improve concentration, confidence, and focus while also emphasizing the importance of positivity and respect. Master Bruce teaches Tae Kwon Do techniques through a variety of drills to help improve students’ balance, attention span, and more. Classes are a combination of learning basic self-defense moves (blocks, kicks, and punches) as well as games and drills to improve coordination and focus. Each registered student will receive a Tae Kwon Do uniform.

Young Audiences of Houston Arts Partner with iACT Houston: Disciplines to Make a Triple Threat!
This class will feature instruction in dance, singing, and acting that builds into the performance of a musical scene/showcase. This workshop gives students (trained and untrained alike) the opportunity to perform in a musical number. For participants who may be nervous on stage, performing in the chorus will allow them to cooperate with others in a group. For those who wish to step out of their own a little, performing special solos and leading routines will be offered. In the end all parts work together to make a very entertaining whole.

Fay Music Studio
The Fay Music Studio offers private music lessons after school to students in Primary II through Fifth Grade. The program covers a wide variety of musical aspects, such as music reading, basic techniques, musicianship, and performance. Learning to play a musical instrument encourages creativity, boosts self-esteem, and develops fine motor skills, rhythm, and hand-eye coordination. It also improves concentration, discipline, focus, and patience, as well as counting and math skills. We currently offer piano, voice, guitar, and ukulele lessons.

How to Register
Registration for music lessons is available to currently enrolled students.
Students participating in piano lessons must have a piano (acoustic or digital) so they can practice at home. Lessons are offered once a week
Registration for Piano lessons with Dr. Karina Barnett and Dr. Beatriz Montoya and Piano, Guitar, or Ukulele lessons with Ms. Chelsea Rangel is done online through the Extended Day Registration Module, under "Fay Music Studio."

Dr. Karina Praxedes Barnett - Piano
Dr. Karina Praxedes Barnett, a native of Natal, Brazil, has been a piano instructor at The Fay School since 2005. She loves teaching the little ones the fun of reading music at the piano. Her teaching approach emphasizes sight-reading skills, basic piano technique, and recital preparation. Dr. Barnett earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from UFPB (Brazil), a Master of Arts from UNICAMP (Brazil) and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance/Collaborative Arts from the University of Houston, where she was a student of Timothy Hester. Her past experiences include positions as piano faculty at UFRN in Brazil and as staff accompanist at University of Houston’s Moores School of Music. In 2003, she participated in an exchange program sponsored by Rotary International in which she did a series of five recitals throughout England, which originated her album entitled Ciclo Brasileiro. Dr. Barnett currently works as part-time pianist at Heights Church and as a free-lance professional piano accompanist.

Dr. Beatriz Pimentel Montoya - Piano
Dr. Beatriz Pimentel Montoya was born in Brasília, Brazil, where she received her early musical education. She obtained a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Brasília, a Master of Music from the University of Wyoming, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance, Chamber Music and Collaborative Arts from the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music, where she was a student of Nancy Weems and Timothy Hester. Dr. Montoya is the recipient of various awards in national and international piano competitions, and has performed extensively as an orchestral soloist, recitalist, and professional accompanist. Dr. Montoya has held a private piano studio at The Fay School since 2001, where she has helped develop an after-school piano program focused on music reading, technique, and performance skills. Her main goal is to instill the love of music in young children through a fun yet disciplined private lesson program, and to offer this opportunity to children of all levels and abilities.

Chelsea McKinnon - Piano
Chelsea McKinnon joins The Fay School this year as the Elementary Music Specialist and brings over 13 years of classroom teaching experience. She has offered private piano lessons since 2010, helping students build musical fluency and confidence at the keyboard. A lifelong percussionist, Chelsea performed with the Willamette Valley Symphony and Eugene Concert Band during her time in Oregon, and later appeared as a guest artist at the Iberian Music Festival while living abroad. Her teaching emphasizes strong musical literacy as a foundation, while also encouraging students - especially as they grow more advanced - to explore their own artistic voice. Chelsea believes that music is more than what’s written on the page; her goal is for each student to discover how to make music breathe with intention, expression, and personal meaning.
Chelsea Rangel - Piano/Guitar/Ukulele
Chelsea Rangel has taught private music lessons for 16 years and elementary music for 10 years at several private schools in the Houston area. Chelsea is currently the Music & Motor teacher at The Fay School. She is an active performer and has played in the Houston Texans band Deep Steel Thunder. She wishes that her students develop a passion for music that will last forever.
