Fay Fall 2019 Prospective Parent Open House Dates

Choosing a school for your child can be a daunting task.  Many of us do our homework before making a big purchase and selecting a school should not be any different.  Just like you would not buy a car without taking it for a test drive or a house without seeing it first, you should not decide on a school before visiting the campus in person.  Attending a prospective parent open house is the perfect way to see a school, gather information, and get a sense of whether your family would fit in with the school’s culture.

There are many factors to consider when selecting where you want to send your child, and each family has different priorities for their child’s educational experience.  Factors to consider include curriculum, after school activities, diversity, cost, parent involvement, and more.  Simply researching the options in your city can be overwhelming and confusing.  So how do you decide where to send your child?

Many independent schools host open houses for prospective parents to get a glimpse of what their school has to offer.  There are numerous benefits of attending these private school open houses, many of which cannot be achieved by simply browsing a school's website.  Not only do open houses allow you to see the campus, but they also provide valuable insight into the programs and culture of each school.

Here are a few benefits from attending an open house:

  • You get to see the students and teachers in action in an authentic setting.
  • You are exposed to and educated on the curriculum, and you can see what sets each school apart from others.
  • You will get a sense of what the school values, what its mission is, and how it executes the mission.
  • You can learn about parent-teacher conferences and how the school communicates and informs you about your child’s educational progress.
  • You will get a feel for if your family would be a good cultural fit.
  • You are given the opportunity to ask questions.

At The Fay School, we offer two open houses in the fall for prospective parents.  We invite parents to come to our campus to learn about our school and our programs, and all parents are given a tour by one of our Fifth Grade leaders.  At Fay's open houses, we highlight our Leadership Development Program and our Outdoor Education Program, and our goal is for you to leave with an understanding of what makes The Fay School one of the premier elementary schools in Houston.

Attending an independent school open house will not only inform you, but you will be able to visualize your child in the school setting and determine if it is a good fit.  The feeling you get from being on campus will be an important indicator of whether the school is a good choice for your child and family.  Ask questions, be open-minded, and trust your instincts.
