Fay Day of Service

The Houston Food Bank depends upon volunteers seven days a week to clean, sort, bag/box, palletize, shrink-wrap, and stage products for distribution throughout our 18-county service area where 1 million people who are food insecure reside.  The need for volunteers is especially great now.

Since 2006, Kids’ Meals has been making and delivering free, healthy meals directly to the homes of hungry children. Since inception, they have given more than 10.3 million free meals to food insecure children in 57 zip codes in Harris County and Montgomery County.  Kids’ Meals is a first responder to children ages 5 and under facing debilitating hunger due to extreme poverty.

• Service: Making grocery bags or packing lunch bags
• Time: 9:00am – 12:00pm or 12:30pm – 2:30pm 
• Age requirement: 8+

Enjoy the magic of early Houston spring while joining in the Houston Arboretum’s efforts to provide safe and healthy habitat for native creatures and our visiting guests. Our Fay Families are invited to the Nature Shop located in our wonderful Nature Center building to pick up supplies to be used for trash collection and park clean up between the hours of 10am and 2pm on Monday, February 17th. Participants should dress prepared for walking and weather with water bottles and sun protection, and we will do the rest! We will supply grounds maps, gloves, trash and recycling bags, and grabbers for use on the trails to pick up the things us humans have left behind.

Books Between Kids is a non-profit organization serving Houston’s at-risk children by providing them with books to build their own home libraries.

• Service: Various tasks to prepare donated books for distribution to Houston students

• Age requirement: 8+

The Nature Discovery Center is dedicated to preserving their four-acre nature park and leading programs that ignite appreciation for nature among all ages.
